There are so many stars who are out these days. Neil Patrick Harris ("Doogie Howser"), Rosie, Ellen Degeneres, Lance Bass, just to name a few. There are even more who I'd call 'stealth out'. They're under the radar out. They'd never deny they were gay. They never hide their partners from the public. Nor do they announce they're gay on live TV. So if they're so close to being out why aren't they? I assume it's that no one ever asked them.
I got the idea for 'stealth out' when I was having dinner with some industry queen friends of mine. You know, makeup artists, hairstylists, and personal assistants to the stars. The kind of people you really wouldn't want to piss off if wanna remain 'stealth out'.
For many years Rosie O'Donnell was the epitome of that term. She never hid the fact that she was gay from her staff. When she met Kelly, she'd invite her to her dressing room on many occasions. Everyone in the industry knew she was gay. But she never officially outed herself. She was stealth. Even on The View, Rosie admitted, "I was never really in the closet. It's just that those were different times. There weren't bloggers trying to find out about your personal life."
So, after discussing with my friends the industry queens, here's my list of 'stealth out' gays...
You may remember her from "9 to 5", with Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda. Or her insanely funny monologue from last year's Oscars. She's got more funny bone in her dike dildoes than any other star in Hollywood.
It's generally known that she's been out about her sexuality from day one. It's just that, 'back in those days' no one really asked 'that question'. As Lily crawls back to inobscurity, let's all give her a big heave ho out of the her stealth closet. I'd like to start the, Bring Lily Out Dat Closet campaign!
...she took some time away from the screen from 1978 to 1993, but since then she's appeared in several sitcoms, a TV movie, and a film currently in production.
Even more current than that, I saw her holding her girlfriend's hand in the West Village. Here's another case of a star, being completely out, but no one cares. At least for this case, I'm sure it's because most people wouldn't recognize her. But I'm not most people!!!!!
Yes ladies and gentlemen, Rod Stewart is a 'stealth gay'. Whether he is currently porking some beans is up for discussion, but when he was first starting out in the music scene, it was common knowledge that he used to be a hustler. Back in 'those days' it was glamorous to have a bit of bisexual in your story. It made you different. Suckin' you know what for cash was about as glamorous as Mr. Stewart was going to get before he really started to hit the big time. I'm sure if you looked in old Rolling Stone magazines they'd hint to his former past.
Do you think I'm sexy
